what is sugaring
Sugaring is an organic, healthy, less painful hair removal alternative to waxing. It contains 3 simple ingredients of Sugar, water, and lemon. It’s great for sensitive skin, it helps to prevent ingrown hairs, and it exfoliates the skin.
HOW SUGARING WORKS
Many people are curious about the process of Sugaring when they learn of the main ingredient, which is Sugar. Sugaring works to remove each hair strand from the root without affecting the skin which tends to result in less pain and skin irritation than waxing.
The Sugar paste is applied in the opposite direction of the hair growth, allowing the Sugar to seep into the hair follicle and adhere to it. The hair is then removed by hand using the Sugar paste in the natural direction of hair growth. This technique can be incredibly effective for removing the hair, which produces the best results.
Generally, Sugaring is performed by hand versus the use of a strip paper as you do in waxing to remove the hair. Instead, a smooth ball of Sugar paste is gently applied onto the skin in the opposite direction of the hair growth resulting in less pain, hair breakage, and ingrowns while leaving the skin exfoliated, smooth, and flawless.
A single Sugaring treatment will not prevent your hair from its natural regrowth. However, after a number of repeated sessions, Sugaring can assist with slower hair regrowth, sparse regrowth, and thinner hair.

SHAVING

- Some skin irritation. Can cause ingrown hairs.
Before:
- Do not moisturize the skin by using creams, lotions, or serums on the area that will be Sugared
- Do not apply deodorant if underarms are being Sugared
- Hair should be at least ¼ of an inch long
- Allow 10-14 days of hair regrowth after shaving
- Allow 3-4 weeks of hair regrowth after waxing
- Allow 3-6 weeks of hair regrowth after Sugaring
After Care: 24-48hrs after being Sugared, you should avoid the following
- Do not exfoliate the skin for 48 hours after treatment
- Deodorant (if you had underarms Sugared)
- Heat (including saunas, steam rooms, and hot yoga studios)
- Direct sunlight, tanning beds, and infrared
- Working out (24hrs)
- Makeup (if you had face Sugared)
- Do not shave or use razors to remove hairs in between treatments. Doing so will defeat the purpose of and decreases the benefits of body sugaring.

Will I experience pain during the treatment session?
Everyone’s pain tolerance is different but most people find Sugaring less painful than waxing. This is because sugaring does NOT adhere to the skin and it is removed in the direction of the hair growth. Taking an Advil 30mins before a treatment session can help minimize the pain for those with a low pain tolerance.
Will I experience ingrown hairs?
Ingrown hairs post a Sugaring treatment is less likely to occur due to the hair being removed in the direction of the hair growth than it would be with waxing or shaving.
How long should my hair be before a treatment?
The length of a hair should be approximately ¼” or longer which is the length of a grain of rice.
What if I’m on my period the day of my scheduled appointment?
Menstruating is no reason to cancel your Brazilian or bikini Sugaring appointment. A tampon or a menstrual cup is something that can be worked around to prevent a client’s menstruation being an issue.
Can I use topical numbing cream before my Sugaring treatment?
Numbing creams aren’t very effective for hair removal. Numbing creams only numbs the top layer of the skin, but it doesn’t reach below the surface where the hair is connected at the root. In short, you can apply numbing cream to the Sugared area prior to treatment, however it won’t do you much good.
Does Sugaring help reduce hair regrowth long-term?
It sure does! Continuous Sugaring changes the regrowth cycle, which means you’ll grow a lot less hair in those areas in the long-run. An extended time period between Sugaring treatments interfere with the Sugaring results. Extending the time past 5 weeks from the last treatment puts you in-between growth cycles.
To achieve the best results, the idea is to remove the hair and scar the follicle so the hair grows sparse and thinner. These results would be unable to achieve if there is always hair in the follicle.
What can I expect from my Sugaring appointment?
Some clients experience a slight stinging sensation few a minutes after the treatment is completed. A few very tiny red dots (the pores from which the hair was removed). They will fade within a couple of hours.
Skin irritation, burning, or any skin tearing, which is common with waxing, is not something a client will experience. Sugaring is so gentle many people feel nothing once the treatment is over.
Do you offer Brazilians for men?
Brazilians, referred to as “Manzilians” for men, are offered to male clients along with the Mankini/Bikini area.
How should I prepare myself for my Sugaring appointment?
The day of your appointment your skin should be clean and dry. No lotions, creams, oils, or serums.
- Shower- to make sure the Sugared area is fresh and clean
- Make sure the length of hair is ¼”
- Avoid tanning the day before or day of the treatment. Skin that has been sunburned is too sensitive to Sugar
- Discontinue any internal/external products or medications such as Differin, Benzoyl Peroxide, Glycolic Acid, Avita, Retin-A, Salicycle Acid, and Proactive 4-7 days prior to hair removal treatment. Accutane is a medication that dries out the entire body. You must be off Accutane for 6 months prior to hair removal on any area of the body
How long should I wait between Sugaring appointments?
The ideal time to book rebook an appointment for your next Sugaring treatment should be between 3-4 weeks. The time is a bit shorter for facial and underarm hairs, approximately 1-3 weeks depending on the individuals growth rate. You’ll definitely achieve long lasting results when you get Sugared every 3-5 weeks.
Can I get Sugared if I have sensitive skin?
Absolutely! The Sugar paste ingredients are organic and contains no additives or preservatives, which means no irritants and no allergic reactions. Sugaring is a safe, effective, and gentle professional treatment.
